3-DAY RESIDENCY: BUDDHA MIND AND CULTURE

This Residency programme is being conducted with a wider purpose of exploring possibilities of advancing non-religious dhamma teachings given by Gautama Buddha.

The monkey-mind nature of human conduct, induced by trisna causes all sufferings is the basic teaching of the Buddha.  This insight had triggered s radical and spiritual transformations throughout Asia 2500 ago.

Vipasana, the method for harnessing the monkey-mind that the Buddha had offered has begun to get wider attention in the present day's conflict-ridden world that is mainly moved by consumerism.

Backed by new findings in cognitive science, neurophysiology and other sciences the vipasana/mindfulness meditation is witnessing impressive reception in the areas of health caring, education, arts, and other cultural domains.

The present residency is designed to introduce some of those new developments and their connections with the classical vipasana

PROGRAMME:

Bhikku Bhante Suseela: Dhamma teachings, Vipasana training.

Dr. S Krishnan and Ms.  Lakshmi K: Brain and mindfulness - a            Compassionate interconnectedness.

Sri. Harsha Nagaraju: Art as a tool of mindfulness and how it shaped
 Buddhist heritage

Organised by:

PillathaangiCentre for Self-Learning in Liberative Life-Caring Practices,
Kalady Unit.

Concept-note

This RESIDENCY forms part of an independent initiative for learning welfare insights and skills from Buddhist dhamma practices and cultural traditions. As the potential resource base for mental liberation or inner transformation, different contemplative traditions of Buddhism are getting wider and wider attention in the contemporary world. Such a trend seems to suggest the need for an open and inclusive perspective for making the welfare benefits available beyond any religious denomination and institutional affiliation. What strikes most impressive is those inclusive calls that emerge from within the Buddhist traditions that are otherwise perceived to be religious, like any other competitive religion. Indeed, many explorations are in need to seek all possibilities of nonreligious dhamma practices.

A MINDFULNESS BASED DHAMMA TEACHINGS AND MEDITATION RETREAT

 Guided by:

Bhante K. Suseela (Sri Lanka/Canada)

“Wonderful, indeed, it is to subdue the mind,
So difficult to subdue, ever swift,
And seizing whatever it desires.
A tamed mind brings happiness.”

Let’s build a friendly environment with a deep understanding of nature.

Is Buddhism, another religion?
What is mindfulness?
Why do we need it?
Where can we apply it?
How can we improve it?
Mindfulness as a practice for stress reduction.
Mindful daily living.
A path to a friendly environment (on Loving-Kindness).
What is Vipassana? (A practical approach for the reality).
